People
My wife, my two daughters and I live locally in Mt Pleasant and are passionate supporters of the coastal pathway. We love the way that the pathway (almost) connects the Ferrymead Bay’s communities, and gives everyone access to the estuary and a safe route to the sea (when completed). Prior to the earthquakes we used to walk and bike regularly out to Sumner to visit the beach and a café, and look forward to doing this again soon. I work as an oncologist at Christchurch Hospital and cycle to work each day, rain, hail or snow. I am keen for people to be given the opportunity to bike in an off-road environment, or to just enjoy the pathway in any way they wish (other than driving on it).

I am standing in as treasurer this year. My background for this role is in applied science and business management, along with being on the CCPG committee for more than four years (three as Chair). I have lived on Mt Pleasant for around 25 years and love the way we can so easily get out and enjoy our stunning natural environment of hills, estuary and seaside. I am a science consultant and managing director of Aspire for Life Ltd, an online food, health and fitness company. I am a keen sea-kayaker and see the pathway as an essential city asset, which will encourage people of all abilities to enjoy the good life Christchurch has to offer even more. I am currently a member of the Linwood/Central/Heathcote community board.

I live in Mt Pleasant with my wife, son and daughter. I love the outdoors and have always been a keen walker – especially on pathways close to the open water. Taking strolls on a beach, hiking along ocean cliffs, and exploring sand dunes are my ideas of good clean fun when I’m not working on tools to improve technology education. My goal for the pathway is that it becomes much more than a connection between two points – that it becomes an opportunity to get together, to exercise, to explore, to adventure, and to enjoy.

I’ve been an avid supporter of a coastal pathway since the project was first proposed, and have been a committee member since 2016. As a keen runner, I love the idea that the pathway not only links Sumner to Ferrymead, but that it has a real emphasis on keeping active in a safe environment. I am married with two children and have lived in Sumner for 14 years, since emigrating from England. I am a Business Development Executive at Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism, and see the pathway as offering a world class experience to both locals and tourists to enjoy.

I am a contractor to the tourist industry. I am passionate about the public now and in the future accessing Christchurch’s natural beauty.

I live in Sumner where I enjoy walking the beach and surrounding areas – and have been a member of the committee since its origin in 2011. I have long observed both in my hometown New Plymouth and the Wellington waterfront, the hugely positive impact the coastal walkway has had on both the communities and its many visitors. Its success drives my passion to create the pathway. I am excited to see initial infrastructure for the pathway is now a reality along the causeway, associated with the three-laning project, through Redcliffs, and look forward to achieving the goal of the 6.5 kilometre iconic asset for both locals and visitors to Christchurch to enjoy. I am a director and co owner of three small businesses, and foundation member of the CCPG. I believe that with the continuation of passion and hard work to date, we will one day achieve an equal level of success for our community.

I live in Sumner and have been a member of the committee since June 2013. Prior to that for many years I was a board member of the Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust. I saw the pathway as an opportunity not to be missed. My interest in the estuary developed in the early 1970’s when I joined the Christchurch Estuary Association – of which I am a life member. In 1972 I wrote a geography thesis analysing how conflicts in the administration the estuary were resulting in its deterioration. I retired in 2010 from a government career in environmental impact analysis, environmental policy development and resource management. I have detailed knowledge of the estuary shoreline – and led the Ihutai Trust’s programme for improved public access to the shoreline. This included the publication of a Shoreline Walkway Concept Plan from Linwood Avenue to Celia St, Redcliffs. Alisdair lives in Sumner. My current interest is to progress the pathway between Wakatu Avenue and the Sumner Surf Club.

I live Sumner with my family. I am passionate about the pathway, in its bold structure and vision for the Christchurch community. I am excited in the many ways it is being used for transport, recreation, connectivity and enhancement of our special place in the world, accessible to all.

I have lived in Christchurch since my arrival to New Zealand in 1993. I have a PhD in public policy and public administration, focused on environmental management. I’ve worked as an academic, dean and deputy vice-chancellor at Lincoln University. More recently I’ve taken up the role of science director at Environment Canterbury. My governance experience spans two decades and includes being the former chair, Amnesty International New Zealand, alongside membership of multiple other boards, including the Bio Protection Research Centre and Rangi Ruru Girls School. I enjoy spending time with my Cantabrian partner (Amelia) and two teenage sons (Alexander and Theodore). Favourite outdoor pursuits include kayaking, hill walking and any time spent in the marine environment.

I was brought up in Christchurch and moved to Sumner with my partner and 2 daughters in 2004. I love the lifestyle Sumner and the environs provide, and believe that the pathway is a fabulous way for people to enjoy the area and to safely access the suburbs in-between. As a designer and owner of my own business for over 25 years, my expertise is in spatial planning design, project management, marketing and administration. I have previously been the president of the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association, thus having had experience in governance and board responsibilities. I would like to see the pathway being an area not only for transport but for inspiration, social interaction, a beautiful place to reflect and rest.

Content to come.

I live in Redcliffs and am passionate about the ‘riviera’ of Christchurch and believe the people of our city deserve a world-class coastal pathway – so that all ages can fully appreciate, interact and enjoy this asset, and show it off with pride to our visitors. I have a background in management, sales and marketing – and have been involved with school boards, Lions International, Save the Children Fund and am currently as a trustee of a charitable fund directed towards medical needs. I am excited to be involved with the pathway which will showcase our cities interaction with the coastline and the Port Hills, inject vitality, vibe and growth into the local communities, and provide a ‘must do ‘ attraction for residents and our visitors.

“Think of

PhotoNewZealand

“the success Prince Arthur’s Landing transforms the City of Thunder Bay’s waterfront into a The Bondi to Coogee Walk is a picturesque coastal route featuring beaches, “Sydney’s

Local information NZ cycle and pathway projects Australia International Research and Policy

Wellington Harbour “Think of it as your everyday holiday, right here.” New Plymouth Walkway “the success of similar walkways in reinvigorating communities is well proven…” Thunder Bay Canada Prince Arthur’s Landing transforms the City of Thunder Bay’s waterfront into a mixed-use village and animated waterfront park reconnecting the downtown to the shores of Lake… More

People have lived and gathered food in this area for over 700 years.
